Description
Rafting under the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, a deck arch type and the seventh highest in the United States, is a thrill not to be missed. One of New Mexico's historic landmarks and most visited sites can be found in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Thousands view the Rio Grande Gorge from atop the bridge every year but only a few venture out into the Class 4/5 whitewater rapids of the Taos Box and view it from below. The walls of the gorge are from ancient lava flows, a rock known as basalt, along the Rio Grande Rift.
